I’m sorry it’s been a while since I’ve updated you on our Chapter news! A lot has been happening and I’ll start with the announcement of our new Chapter webpage, which is now up and running. TheChurchillCentreSouthTexas.com
Please note that we are listing as many Churchill related web links as possible, including the new webpage of The Churchill Centre & Churchill Museum completed by our good friends John David Olsen and Daniel Myers. Our Chapter goal is to support as many activities and membership goals as possible for our national organization. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to Mary Paxson, Director of Administration in Chicago, for all of her help and guidance. I’ve enjoyed working with her, and she has really encouraged our Chapter efforts!
I am really excited about sharing with you a major project we doing with the students, faculty, parents and administration of Winston Churchill High School in San Antonio.

The “Sir Winston S. Churchill Memorial Wall” will be a display of pictures, paintings, photographs, posters,
political cartoons, letters, newspapers, magazine covers and famous quotes highlighting the life of this great man.
Currently, a team of volunteers are evaluating the actual positioning of all the items and arranging them chronologically from 1874 to 1965. The majority of these items have been donated from my personal Churchill collection and we have also received several fantastic photographs from Westminster College of the1946 “Iron Curtain” speech. Celia Sandys (daughter of Diana Churchill) donated a painting of Sir Winston during her 2008 visit to the school, and Jonathon Sandys (Churchill’s great grandson) has also provided a photograph related to his 2009 visit.
Our Churchill Centre South Texas Chapter is currently undertaking a local fundraising campaign to cover the costs associated with the professional framing (thanks to our friends at FastFrames, Renee Pernoud and Tim O’Saughnessy) of all the display pieces, plus the Memorial Wall signage that is being created to highlight the space. 100 % of all funds raised will go to support this project. I hope you would consider helping us achieve this effort so that we can complete the project over the summer and have a dedication ceremony to begin the new school year! Our goal is to have a Churchill Centre South Texas reception and ribbon cutting event at the school with all the students and our friends from around the country.
Any donation amount will be welcome and checks can be made out and sent to:
“Churchill Centre South Texas”
% Donald E. Jakeway
170 Grassmarket
San Antonio, TX 78259
All donations will be recognized on a special plaque that will hang proudly on the Memorial Wall.
I would also like to inform you that we will be scheduling some “monthly” informal gatherings at one of the Lion & Rose Pubs in San Antonio, and we hope to have some similar events in Austin. (!!!) Further information will be posted on our webpage and sent out in a Churchill Centre South Texas e-mail flash.
Please know that our South Texas Chapter will also be doing whatever we can to support our other International, national and regional Churchill organizations (!!!) including our Texas friends at the Emery Reeves Churchillians Chapter in Dallas and the Churchill Centre Houston!
Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions on how we can have more fun celebrating and honoring the life of Sir Winston.
Respectfully,
Don Jakeway
